Caribbean Resort

When we got to Orlando, we checked into the Caribbean Beach Resort. This resort is on the Walt Disney World property, near both Epcot and the Disney-MGM Studios. Our building was #14 in the Barbados section.

There are 33 different buildings in six different sections of the resort, all arranged around a big lake. Each section has its own swimming pool and white sand beach--and its own color scheme!

At the center of the Caribbean Beach Resort is an area called Old Port Royale, which includes a really big swimming pool (with water slide), boat rentals, and Centertown. Centertown is a big central building that houses a food court, videogame arcade, and a big Disney store.

Alec and Ben really liked the Caribbean Beach Resort, and we ended up eating most of our meals in the food court. It certainly was convenient--plus, there was that videogame arcade!

Dcp00348.jpg (73413 bytes) This is our building, Barbados 14. Pretty colors, don't you think?  Dcp00353.jpg (62183 bytes) The other side of Centertown--complete with pool, whirlpool, outdoor dining, and (each evening) a Calypso band.
Dcp00322.jpg (59861 bytes) This is how our room looked before we settled in. Two beds, a small bathroom, and very bright Caribbean colors.  Dcp00354.jpg (61461 bytes) Looking down the row of eating establishments in Centertown's food court--including a bakery, deli, hamburger stand, and pizza shop.
Dcp00323.jpg (62710 bytes) The room's still clean and neat... Dcp00355.jpg (85301 bytes) Happy Disney diners in the food court!
Dcp00298.jpg (72617 bytes) ...but then Ben and Alec went to work! (The room didn't stay neat all that long, truth to tell...) Dcp00363.jpg (60568 bytes) Here we have Ben Hauser demonstrating his spaghetti-eating technique.
Dcp00299.jpg (58777 bytes) It didn't take much effort to create that "lived in" look! (Note the TV on the left--it showed lots of Disney channels, and not much else!) Dcp00362.jpg (72064 bytes) Alec is showing off his muscles while he eats fried chicken at the food court.
Dcp00352.jpg (42479 bytes) Some of the pretty scenery around the lake at the center of the Caribbean Beach Resort. Dcp00360.jpg (69401 bytes) Even more popular than the food court--the videogame arcade!
Dcp00351.jpg (49636 bytes) A great view of the Caribbean Beach Resort's 45-acre lake, from one of the white sand beaches.  Dcp00361.jpg (81731 bytes) Alec and Ben's favorite game: Star Wars!
Dcp00364.jpg (48075 bytes) Looking out from Centertown during the daily afternoon downpour--it rained (hard!) every afternoon! Dcp00357.jpg (57617 bytes) A rare shot of Ben not playing the Star Wars arcade game!
Dcp00365.jpg (49219 bytes) Ben and Alec modeling the "dorky" Disney-supplied ponchos in the early evening rain. Dcp00356.jpg (69069 bytes) Alec standing in front of a machine that let you try to win various prizes--he spent almost five dollars trying to win a Christina Aguilera CD!
Dcp00366.jpg (56370 bytes) Another shot of those extremely fashionable Disney ponchos, as seen from the rear.
